The Argo array is the centrepiece of the in situ ocean observing system promoted by the Joint Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology, co-sponsored by IOC and WMO. It is a programme of GOOS. In November 2007, the Argo ocean observing array reached its initial target of operating 3,000 robotic floats worldwide.
