GOOS Outreach

The GOOS outreach and advocacy groups are building support for the goals of GOOS by putting the GOOS message front and center at oceanographic meetings, earth observing summits and governmental fora. These activities will increase the visibility and public awareness of GOOS. This web site presents the programs and methods used to encourage participation in GOOS.

Outreach is achieved through a variety of methods. Presence at trade shows and conferences will be enhanced with a suite of advertising posters, video presentations and booth displays. News reports and publicity are aided by a stream of press releases and information coordinated through our media outreach office. Scientific representation is encouraged by supplying GOOS related information and imagery for anyone interested in blending the GOOS message into reports and presentations.

Coordination is important to these efforts. Ocean United is an advocacy group which allows collaboration between outreach professionals from all domains of marine science, research, operations, management, industry, advocacy, government etc etc. The Ocean United web site is open to all who register: http://oceanunited.net

Continuing Outreach Programs ( 5 items )

A sustained presence of GOOS outreach is necessary to promote the GOOS message and effectively maintain the observing systems. When the public and ministers are informed about the goals and successes of GOOS the demand for GOOS services will increase and the longevity of GOOS will be assured.

GEO meeting ( 4 items )

GEO Ministerial in Nov. 2007 was the first demonstration of the new outreach program for GOOS and Ocean United. A grand exposition of ocean themed displays were presented at the GEO exhibition hall which were viewed by all the participants in the ministerial.
