Traineeships in observational oceanography

cofe-jon_stuart_ctd.jpgThe Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) is pleased to announce a second year of support from the Nippon Foundation for the NF-POGO Centre of Excellence in Observational Oceanography.
The Centre will offer a 10-month programme of study at BIOS on observational oceanography. Primarily for students from developing countries but also for students from developed countries with plans to network in or with developing countries. Tentative programme dates are from 1 August 2009 to 31 May 2010.
Travel and living expenses of the trainees will be covered by the NF-POGO Programme.  Deadline for applications: 15 January 2009.

4th Vai Pasifika Newsletter just issued

vai-pasifika-newsletter1.jpgVai Pasifika, the joint newsletter of the Pacific Islands Observing Systems, is released quarterly and aims to inform partners and stakeholders of recent news, issues and activities associated with the Pacific Islands Global Ocean Observing System (PI-GOOS), the Pacific Islands Global Climate Observing System (PI-GCOS), and the Pacific Islands Hydrological Cycle Observign System (Pacific HYCOS).
By bringing together information resources for these observing systems, its aim is to encourage a more unified approach to observing the Pacific climate/water ecosystem.

GRA 4th Forum, Nov 25-27

gyehihf_hilton_colon_guayaquil_gallery_leisure_municipiodequayaquil_large.jpg Fourth GOOS Regional Alliance Forum will be held 25, 26, 27 Nov. 2008 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The GRA Fora bring together representatives of all the GRAs to plan the next biennum activities of the Coastal Component of GOOS. The Forum fosters cooperation of the programs of the GRAs, builds GOOS and enhances regional activities.

Call for individual consultant to provide web services content management for IOC

unesco-paris.jpgThe UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission works to advance international cooperation in ocean sciences and ocean observation systems. The IOC also drives forward the process of building marine science competencies in developing countries by engaging and teaching marine science leaders and students throughout Africa and other developing regions. The mission of IOC is extremely relevant in this age of environmental concerns, and it needs to have its story told.

Applicants are invited to compete for an individual consultant contract for web services content management for the IOC.
