Ed Harrison to Receive NOAA Award

The Administrator’s Award recognizes significant contributions to NOAA programs in equal employment opportunity, diversity, scientific research, public service, engineering development, environmental conservation, policy development, administrative support, public affairs, and information systems.

At the Meeting of the Americas icebreaker, a casual sampling by AGU bloggers revealed that researchers have come from around the globe to discuss new work, make connections with colleagues, and visit parts of the globe they wished to see.

Keith Alverson, Director of the GOOS Project Office, was interviewed by AGU bloggers (second to last entry) explaining why he was at an AGU meeting.

 
Southern Ocean OS Plan Reviews Requested

SCAR logoThe SCAR, Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research, has released the draft plan for the Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS).  The plan outlines the scientific rationale and strategy for the SOOS; identifies the variables to be observed; presents a draft plan for an integrated multi-disciplinary observing system for the Southern Ocean; and identifies the next steps required for implementation.

We encourage all interested parties to provide feedback (to soos@scar.org) before 1st October 2010, after which a final version will be produced.  The draft plan is available for review at http://www.scar.org/soos/
