2010 Meeting of Americas: call for abstracts

banner-meeting-americas.jpgThe Meeting of the Americas will be held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, 8-13 August 2010. The Programme Committee will develop a union-wide science programme that will cover topics in all areas of geophysical sciences.
A session will be devoted to Regional Ocean Observing Systems in the Americas. You are kindly invited to submit abstracts by 31 March 2010 at: http://agu-ja10.abstractcentral.com/
GOOS intends to provide funds to 10 researchers from South America and the Carribean with decision on the basis of quality of abstracts submitted and accepted to the session. Anyone interested in having their abstract considered for GOOS funding should: (1) submit their abstract to AGU; and (2) send an e-mail to Keith Alverson, Director of the GOOS Project Office, with the title of the abstract and the name and institute of the presenting author.

July 2010 Perth IOGOOS-7 ... meetings

Preliminary notice

Meetings of the Indian Ocean Global Ocean Observing System and associated project groups will be held in Perth, Western Australia, 12-16 July 2010.

These meetings are by invitation only. Administration for delegate participation for all meetings is being coordinated through the Secretariats of the respective groups. Prospective delegates from IOGOOS, IOP, SIBER and IRF should refer queries in respect to attendance, administration and logistics to their own respective Secretariats.

Congress on "Deep-water Circulation: Processes & Products" to be held soon

deep-water-circ-congress.gifAn international congress "Deep-water Circulation: Processes & Products" is being organized in Baiona, Pontevedra, Spain, on 16-18 June 2010. The main purpose of this congress will be integrating deep-bottom current circulation, sedimentary processes, deposits and their implication for palaeoceanogrpahic reconstructions. This will lead to better understanding the ocean's role in the global climate system, recognizing contourites as a new target for economic resources, and consideration of specific biota and deep-water ecosystems related to bottom current circulation.

Jason 3 programme approved

jason3.jpgOn 1 February 2010, EUMETSAT Member States approved the European part of the EUMETSAT Optional Jason 3 Altmetry Programme enabling this entry into force. This programme, developed in close partnership with CNES, NOAA and NASA, will ensure continuation of the series of measurements made by the Jason-2 satellite and its predecessors in support of meteorology, operational oceanography and, in particular, the monitoring of the sea-level trend, a key indicator of climate change.

3,198 Argo floats deployed

argo-float.jpgThe final report for 2009 has just been published by the Argo Information Centre. Even with 3,198 floats sending a pulse, the Argo core mission is still not completed.

Please provide the Argo Technical Coordinator with your updates regarding your deployment plans by the end of February 2010.
