A large number of nations conduct activities as a part of GOOS. Contributions come from national agencies, private institutions, and individual oceanographers. The nations perform a wide range of tasks in support of the GOOS effort, including the installation and maintenance of in situ observing networks, the launching of ocean satellites, maintenance of real-time data streams and data archives, and the provision of ocean forecasts and other ocean information products. The nations also contribute to coordination and capacity-building activities supporting GOOS, including the provision of personnel and the donation of funds. ![]() The national representatives to I-GOOS have been nominated by responses to IOC Circular Letter 2284, which asked for a nomination from the IOC national representative (the "National coordination body for liaison with the IOC" as defined by a response to IOC Circular Letter 2062) or UNESCO Permanent Delegation. If a country has not responded to CL-2062, the IOC national representative is noted as (unofficial) in the comments. The countries that have responded to CL-2199 by naming a national representative to I-GOOS are shown in red on the map above. The Ninth Session of I-GOOS took place 10-12 June 2009. Following the Ninth Session of I-GOOS, circular letter CL-2328rev, Jan. 2010, requested updated information from Member States concerning the appropriate contact points for GOOS affairs.
